About KidSnaps.org
KidSnaps is a place where kids can share and discuss their digital photograpy. We always have interesting challenges going on, that invite kids to explore different aspects of digital photography, storytelling with images, and community.
About awards
Each child can create an award of their own. This is a 64x64 pixel image that they can grant to photos that they see that they really like. There is no limit to the number of awards you can give (but of course, the fewer awards you give, the more prestigious they are). You can change your award graphic on your personal page.
About challenges
Each challenge is designed to spark creativity or learn something about photography or your community. When the challenge goes up, each kid in the KidSnaps community is able to post photos to the challenge, which get added to the challenge page. Kids can view each others' photos, comment on them, and give them awards. Professional photographers, celebrity judges, and instructors will be available to give feedback on kids' entries.
Each challenge has a maximum number of entries. Some challenges will only allow you to post one photo, while others might allow you to post up to ten. The photos are displayed in reverse chronological order, in the order they are posted, so if you want all your photos displayed together, post them all at the same time.
Eventually, each challenge will close, after which point no more photos will be accepted for the photo. If the challenge is a competition, the winner will be announced after the challenge is closed.
Becoming part of the community
Because of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we cannot collect and work with information about children without their parent's consent. We're also sensitive to the behavior of sexual predators on the internet. Therefore, we ask that parents contact their local Cooperative Extension Service agent or 4-H leader to get their children signed up in our community. If you live outside the state of New Mexico, please contact us, and we will point you to the required forms to enroll your child.
Part of the terms of use for KidSnaps is that you will not disclose any personally-identifiable information on the web site. Do not give out your last name, your address, your phone number, where you live, where you go to school, where you go to church, etc. This is primarily for your protection. Kids caught violating this rule will be banned from the community until the parent re-enrolls them.
Reproduction rights
By uploading photos to KidSnaps, you agree to release them into the public domain so that they may be freely downloaded, traded, shared, and printed by others. Specifically, you give KidSnaps the right to display them on our web site. You also agree that you have the right to release those photos into the public domain (in other words, that you took the photo yourself).
